The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University of Denmark is the former name of the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Copenhagen. The faculty is known as one of the leading university faculties in the fields of veterinary medicine, health, plants, food, natural resources, environment, biotechnology and other related areas of study. In Denmark, the faculty is simply referred to as LIFE. Other great Danish universities include the University of CopenhagenAarhus Universitet, and the DTU.

The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University of Denmark became part of the University of Copenhagen, Denmark’s largest research and education institution, as a Faculty in 2007. It was founded in 1856 and has been known as a leading university in the field of life sciences. It was merged with the University of Copenhagen for more inter-disciplinary cooperation with other areas if study.

Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Copenhagen is composed of eleven departments that cover disciplines that range from farming to well being and health. The department are as follows: Department of Agriculture and Ecology, Department of Basic Animal and Veterinary Sciences , Department of Food Science, Department of Basic Sciences and Environment, Department of Human Nutrition, Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology, Department of Large Animal Sciences, Department of Veterinary Disease Biology, Forest & Landscape and Institute of Food and Resource Economics.

The Faculty has a long history of research in the Life Science. It now incorporates traditional disciplines such as veterinary science, food science and agriculture with new fields including nanotechnology, reproduction technology, plant biotechnology, chemometry, biomedicine and many others.

The Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Copenhagen houses several research schools, namely Research School for Animal Production and Health, Research School in Animal Nutrition and Physiology, Scientific School in Animal Breeding, Research School for Specialised Clinical Diagnostics and Therapeutics, Sustainable Control of Fish Diseases in Aquaculture, Research School – FOOD, Environmental Chemistry, Microbiology and Toxicology, Graduate School on Metal Ions in Biological Systems, Research School for Organic Agriculture and Food Systems, Dinas Research School, Research School for Biotechnology, Research School of Horticultural Sciences, Research School for Forest, Landscape and Planning, Graduate School on In Vivo Farmakologi, PhD School for Applied Economics, and Danish Bioresearch Academy.
