Kagoshima University Information
Kagoshima University, also known as Kadai, is a public national university in the prefecture of Kagoshima, Japan. Founded in 1949, it is headed by its president Hiroki Yoshida and has three campuses: one in Shimoarata, another in Sakuragaoka, and the last one in Korimoto.
Similarly ranked universities in Japan include the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Ehime University, Juntendo University, Kagoshima University, Osaka Prefecture University and Juntendo University.
To date, the Kagoshima University has eight faculties, namely the Faculties of Fisheries, Engineering, Agriculture, Dentistry, Medicine, Science, Education, and Law, Economics and Humanities.
The bulk of the university’s offerings, namely Engineering, Science Education, Agriculture, Literature and Humanities are housed in the Korimoto campus, while the Faculty of Medicine is in the Sakuragaoka campus and the Faculty of Fisheries in the Shimoarata campus.
Undergraduate students can get baccalaureate degrees in the following fields: Law and Policy, Economics, Humanities, Education, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Biology, Health Sciences, Earth Sciences, Life Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Applied Chemistry, Architecture and Civil Engineering amongst others.
Kagoshima University has eleven faculties for its postgraduate studies. These include the Graduate School of Humanistic-Sociological Sciences, Graduate School of Education, Graduate School of Health Science,Graduate School of Fisheries, Graduate School of Agriculture, Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences, Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Kagoshima University Law School, Professional Graduate School of Clinical Psychology, United Graduate School of Veterinary Sciences, and the United Graduate School of Veterinary Sciences, which is housed in Yamaguchi University.
Aside from its academic offerings, the university is also a center for scholarly research and inter-disciplinary studies. Under the International Education & Research Center for the Pacific Islands, Research,Education Center for Lifelong Learning, Frontier Science Research Center and Research Center for Archaeology, Kagoshima University gives postgraduates an opportunity to conduct research, experiments and expand their knowledge in their chosen fields. The university offers many opportunities for people who are unsure of what career to pursue with their many inter-disciplinary and general education programs. Through centers like Computing and Communications Center, Education Center and Inamori Academy, the university arms its students with the necessary technical skills needed to ensure employment after graduation.
