George Washington University Information

George Washington University (GWU) is named after one of the greatest Americans to ever live; the general of the continental revolutionary army and the first President of the United States of America.

When the university was founded in 1821, it was a Baptist school that was considered to be a private educational facility. However, over the years it slowly shifted over to being a non-sectarian institution and while it is still a private institution with 25,000 students and an endowment of over $1 billion, it is known as a coeducational research school with strengths in three specific areas.

The first of those three areas is social science. A lot of different social science subjects such as geography are very strong at George Washington University, WashingtonDC and a lot of the famous thinkers in the social science fields are former students of the institution.

The second field is international affairs. In a world where international relations is a very difficult and complicated subject, the people working in that field at George Washington University are helping to push forward research that will help to further our understanding.

Lastly, the George Washington University is known for its law program. Law is a very difficult program to master and of course nobody can ever have a completely encyclopedic knowledge of the subject, but if you go to George Washington University you are likely to get an excellent education in whatever part of the law you choose to study.

There is more to the university than just academics however; in fact, quite a bit more. Not only is the Foggy Bottom area of Washington DC an interesting place to hang out, but it is also an interesting place from a historical perspective. There is so much to do and see both there and elsewhere within America’s capital that students will never be bored. The idea of living in such a historic city is definitely appealing to some, and if this sounds like you, then the George Washington University might just be the place you’re looking for.

Other colleges in the state include Howard University, and the Georgetown University.
