Unfortunately the campus has a few safety issues, these mainly are a result of inadequate lighting in the campus; students feel that the local police force do not give enough attention to the HSU campus and are much more interested in patrolling the local streets. That said the university does have a security force that has a presence, and any incidents or things to be on the look out for are quickly communicated to students.
The dorms have mixed reviews depending upon the ones you are given, those at Newberry and Smith have particular bad reputation as they are not cared for and are often quite smelly. Insist on staying at one of the better dorms such as East Hall.
HSU has lots of things to do; there are many clubs and activities to partake in, and a love of sport.
