Hannover Medical school (Medizinische Hochschule Hannover) is a medical teaching university located in Germany.

Established in 1965, MHH is now considered a top medical university center worldwide and is also an active contributor to the regional medical network of Germany. The Hannover Medical school ranking is the joint 33rd best university in Germany, and in the 508 to 568 range in the world. Similarly rated German colleges include Universität Regensburg, University of Ulm, Technical University of Braunschweig, and University of Bayreuth.

The idea of creating Hannover Medical School began in 1961 when it was agreed upon that Germany needed to produce more students in the field of Medicine. In less than four years, the plan was enacted and the university was built and officially opened on May 17, 1965 under the leadership of Professor Rudolf Schoen. The first classes were at the Hannover Oststadt Hospital with 41 students being taught by 12 teaching staff.

The ground the university stands on today is extremely vast and spans almost 400,000 square meters. Aside from the Central Clinic, the Hannover Medical school now has several other buildings including clinics for Gynecology and Obstetrics, Pediatrics, and the Hans Borst Center for Heart and Stem Cell Research, which is a research center for transplantations.

In addition to medical buildings, the compound also contains a library, theatres, a building for all non-medical health care departments, residences, administrative buildings and many recreational facilities. MHH also has several centers located in other hospitals like it’s Orthopedic Surgery clinic in Annastift Hospital, and the Dermatology, Allergology and Venerology Clinic in Hannover-Linden.

There are several medical-related degree programs offered in MHH like Dentistry, Medicine, Biochemistry, and Public Health. Other courses include Nursing and Pediatric Nursing, Nutrition, Speech Therapy, Med-Tech Laboratory Assistant and Radiology. Aside from these Hannover Medical school also offers training on Midwifery, Psychotherapy and Biomedical research.

MHH is widely known for its focus on research pertaining to Cancer therapy, diseases of the immune system, reconstructive surgery and Neonatology. In order to give its students an advantage in their fields, the medical university also has several collaborations and affiliations with medical institutions and research centers in Germany. Hannover Medical school  is known to have active collaborations with the Hannover Clinical Trial Center, Fraunhofer Institute for Toxicology and Experimental Medicine, Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research, North German Registry of Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Donors and Medimplant Animal Laboratory and Medical Technology.
