There is also a media center, nine residential colleges, on-campus data center and an observatory to meet the educational needs of students.

Rice University also boasts tennis courts, athletic grounds, and stadiums for baseball, soccer, tennis, football and track and field. Lots of research work is both offered and conducted here with funds for research being provided by several foundations and federations. To meet the utility needs of the university, a central plant provides chilled water from a water well and steam for the natural gas fired and steam and electricity co-generation facility.
