Although the Catholic University of Leuven (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven) has only existed in it’s present form since 1968 it can trace it’s roots back as far as 1425.
The university is located in the Belgium city of Leuven and carries out its work in the Flemish language; a second campus is located at Kortrijk. It is presently presided over by the rector Marc Vervenne.
TheCatholic University of Leuven ranking is 25th in Europe. Other colleges and universities in Belgium include Ghent University, Université Catholique de Louvain, University Libre de Bruxelles, and University of Antwerp.
The university of Leuven offers a wide range of study oppurtunities across 14 different facukties. These comprise of the following: Arts; Bioscience Engineering; Canon Law; Economics and Applied Economics; Engineering; Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Sciences; Law; Medicine; Pharmaceutical Sciences; Philosophy; Psychology and Educational Sciences; Science; Social Sciences; and Theology.
Some of the notable alumni since the restructuring of the university of Leuven include the cryptographers Joan Daemen and Vincent Rijmen, the virologist Marc Van Ranst, historian Koen Vervaeke, and the civil engineer Julien De Wilde.
