It is ranked as the 173rd and 445th best college in the US, by the USnews and Forbes, respectively. As the listing ranks are biased towards the bigger colleges it is especially noteworthy that Maine includes many good smaller ‘little Ivies’ schools.

Size wise the largest colleges by undergraduate student body are Umaine – Orono (9,182 students) and the University of Southern Maine (7,098 students). While the smallest establishments include the College of the Atlantic (362 students) and the Maine College of Art (378 students).
