The geographic origin of students is fairly diverse, People from 94 different countries attend the establishment and every US state is represented. Ethnically 20.9% of students describe themselves of color, with the largest non-white ethnic groups being Hispanic/Latino/Chicano (7.6%), Multiethnic (5.1%), and Asian (5.1%).

Student Experience

The majority of students at the University of Oregon feel that they are getting a good learning experience. Many speak of the benefits of studying on an establishment that has such a large array of people, and feel that their lives have changed dramatically by being in contact with people of so many different cultures. It is also noteworthy that the learning environment is considered very good and the ability to count lower level classes towards any major beneficial for those who are not quite sure of their initial line of study. The professors and lectures are well thought of, and it is recommended that you visit the departments offering your topic of interest beforehand to get a feel of their educational level. It has been said that there are many hidden gems within the institution. The workload itself can be quite heavy and students are expected to learn quickly and deeply, fortnightly academic staff are thought to be very helpful by the students.

The university is thought to be great for all kinds of students due to its diversity, it is thought of as an outdoorsy kind of a place making it great for people wit an interest in sports. Many people have mentioned that they were quite homesick at first, but quickly settled in once they had made friends with their room/dorm mates and/or joined some of the many clubs on campus. Cost wise the institution gets mixed reviews, with those from instate benefiting strongly from the states education first stance and finding the place to be a bargain, while those from out of state consider it to be quite expensive, but still offering relative good value for money.

The Oregon campus is considered to be beautiful and the people of Eugene friendly. However, the downtown area is quite sparse, and many students have mentioned a lack of choice in eateries.
