Université Laval Information
Located in the Canadian provence of Quebec Université Laval (Laval University) was founded in the mid 17th century and was the first educational facility in Northern America to offer university study in the French language. The Université Laval ranking is joint 19th best in Canada, and in the 365 to 390 range in the world. Similarly rated establishments in the Canadian colleges list include Carleton University, York University, University of Saskatchewan, and University of Quebec.
The university has grown in size and nowadays caters to over thirty seven thousand students. Lave is currently overseen by the rector Denis Briere.

Being one of the oldest French speaking universities in Canada has enabled Université Laval to build up an impressive list of former faculty and alumni; these include people such as Niklaus Wirth, Marius Barbeau, Jean Chrétien, Louis Laurent and Brian Mulroney (prime ministers of Canada), Esther Delisle (author), and Louis-Honoré Fréchette (poet).
