The university of Alaska at fairbanks can trace its roots back to 1907 when it was established as an agricultural station; it became a university in 1917 following a decision by the united states congress to create a university in Alaska.

Today it receives grants from the government for research into sea, land, sun, and space topics. The university caters for a little over 10,200 students and is looked after by chancellor Brian Rogers.

The Fairbanks branch of the university of Alaska system offers 160 degrees from it’s nine major colleges: these cater for the following broad topic areas: Natural Science and Mathematics; Liberal Arts; Education; Management; Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences; Engineering and Mines; Fisheries and Ocean Sciences; and Rural and Community Development.
