Lund University Information

Regarded as one of the best research universities in Sweden, Lund University (Lunds universitet) can trace its roots back to beyond the year 1666 when it was officially established. Indeed education has been taking place at the university level in Lund since 1425, but the university had to close for a hundred years or so due to Danish Reformation. The university is centred around the Lundagård park part of town, with further departments scattered around the town and further campuses at Malmö and Helsingborg.

The Lund University ranking is 29th in Europe. Other colleges and universities in Sweden include Karolinska Institutet Institute, UppsalaStockholm University, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, University of Gothenburg, Umea University, and Chalmers University of Technology.

In total there are seven faculties at Lund University, these being:

Faculty of Social Sciences

Additional departments if note are the Lund School of Economics and Management; and the Academies of Performing and Visual Arts.

As can be expected with such a long standing and renowned university there are no shortage of famous Faculty and Alumni at Lund University; these include four Nobel prize winners: Manne Siegbahn, Bertil Ohlin, Sune Bergström and Arvid Carlsson. Other prominent people associated with the university include Anders Retzius, Walfrid Ekman, Ivar Wickman, Karl Johan Åström, Carl Hellmuth Hertz and Marcel Riesz.

Lund University offers over 1400 courses, 300 of which are taught in English making it a great university for overseas students to study at.
