The Delft University of Technology (Technische Universiteit Delft – TU Delft), located in the Netherlands, was first established in the middle of the 19th century by King Willem II. He wanted a university that was able to educate people in the skills needed for civil engineering.
The Delft University of Technology ranking is 42nd in Europe. Over time Delft has embraced new technologies and now teaches fourteen main degrees at undergraduate level across eight faculties. Some of the topics available at undergraduate level include aerospace engineering, architecture, marine technology, and of course civil engineering. Over the years many of the worlds leading engineers have passed through the gates of Delft including the nobel prize winners Jacobus van’t Hoff (Chemistry) and Simon van der Meer (physics). other notable people include the biologists Martinus Beijerinck and Ad Bax; the architects Francine Houben Eric van Egeraat and Michiel Riedijk; and scientist Dirk Coster.
